Belts are one of the unsung heroes of my closet. One new belt can make your wardrobe come to life in so many ways. It’s an incredibly versatile piece that you can use to create shapes and finish outfits with polish. It can be as simple as belting your favorite jeans to belting your puffer jacket or blazer in winter for a brand new silhouette.
The way I started wearing belts again sounds silly, but it was really as simple as throwing it on with my favorite jeans and white t-shirt. AYR’s black skinny everyday Essential belt is the easiest thing to style, and something about the extra-skinny size makes more of a statement than a thicker belt. I also love wearing it to cinch an oversized blazer, too. It also comes in a beautiful camel shade.
On the classic side of things, this incredibly crisp black and gold buckle belt from Kate Spade is reversible. I love the perfectly square buckle. In fact, the buckle shape is an easy way to get a little touch of personal style in. The long oval shape of this gold buckle on the Nilli Lotan, or this perfectly round gold buckle from Anthropologie are perfect little finishing touches.
Belts are an easy way to inject some texture into an outfit, and that little bit of texture can be the thing that takes an outfit from okay to great. With fall coming up, I’ve got suede on the brain. This chocolate brown J. McLaughlin belt has a gold belt buckle that feels like jewelry. Rag & Bone’s suede belt comes in beige with a gold buckle, or (my favorite) an olive green with a silver buckle.
If you want to make a statement, you can always build an outfit around your built. I love this J.Crew pony hair leopard print moment, for wearing with everything from my leather pants to a maroon sweater dress.
