But I never thought I would be saying that a French woman has me beat at something as American as blue jeans. But this isn’t just any French woman, it’s Emmanuelle Alt. She’s the Editor-in-Chief of French Vogue, which makes her the French Anna Wintour. And she’s known for her casual but always elegant street style. That means lots of jean, white button-downs, and blazers. This particular get the look is so chic that it looks perfectly at-home in between Paris Fashion Week runway shows.
Lucky for us, this is a formula that will look just as great on us. It’s easy. You just need:
The right pair of jeans – you need a vintage-y indigo wash, and just the right amount of slouch. This pair from Frame is perfect, and it’s even called Le Garçon. I also love these from Citizens of Humanity, which are a little less clingy but still structured. These jeans from Madewell skim a little bit closer to the body, if that’s what you’re looking for.
White button-down – the key here is picking a shirt that looks good tucked in, like this slim stretch shirt from J.Crew. I’m obsessed with this oversized shirt from Raey, if you aren’t in the mood for a tuck.
Timeless accessory – Another thing the French do exceptionally well? Jewelry. Just ask Cartier. You can’t go wrong with any of their pieces, but I think a Tank watch is just about the most elegant timepiece of all time. If you’re not looking to splurge, don’t worry. A gold chain bracelet is just as good.
Black shoe – Emmanuelle is wearing heels. Ha! I will not be. Instead, I’m wearing a pointed flat mule that gives you the polish of a stiletto with none of the pain. This mule with a bow is especially French-y. This is a more standard option at Nordstrom.
A Belt – A belt pulls everything together, especially a classic black leather one. Love the square buckle on this Janessa Leone one.
