At the beginning of the year, it’s nice to start off feeling refreshed and organized. It’s a perfect time to take stock of your basics and swap them out. I’m talking about sweaters that have pilled beyond repair or worn-out white shirts with yellowing collars. You’ll be amazed at how much a simple swap can make your uniform feel stylish again. Below, the new wardrobe essentials we’re stocking up on right now:
Jeans
Maybe you have a go-to favorite jeans silhouette or you want to switch it up when it comes to your wash preference. Either way, starting the year off with a pair of jeans you know you look good in makes life a lot easier. My go-to is vintage-y and straight, like this J.Crew pair or Mother’s Tomcat jeans.
If you’re looking for a dark wash to get you through winter, this Alana jean from Joe’s is super-flattering, from the high-waist to the mini-boot flare. Frame’s Le Garcon jean is the perfect slouchy, boyfriend-inspired fit. You wanna go skinner? The super-high, super-skinny Banana Republic jean shows off legs for days, with just enough stretch to be comfortable.
Tees
You can never have too many t-shirts. A layering piece now, and a true necessity in spring and summer, a t-shirt that fits perfectly can change your whole outfit. I love the length of the sleeves on this La Ligne tee, which is in between short and long sleeved. ATM’s t-shirts are pricey but so worth it, this long-sleeved Destroyed tee is one of my all-time favorites. Rag & Bone’s shirt gives you a boxier fit, and this Splendid Kate shirt is for the v-neck lovers.
Button Down
A step up from a tee, I love the casual elegance of a button-down with just about anything. This relaxed-fit J.Crew poplin shirt comes monogrammed (!!!), this Lauren Ralph Lauren linen shirt is perfect for warmer weather, and you can always rely on Frank & Eileen. This Hommegirls shirt is my go-to for a menswear-inspired fit. A chambray button-down is essential, too!
Sneakers
With so many people still working from home, daily walks aren’t going anywhere. Update your footwear game with a crisp new white pair of sneakers, like these ones from Veja, these Nike Daybreaks, or a classic pair of Converse. On the more colorful side of things, these Air Force 1s in a rainbow of colored leathers, navy blue suede New Balances, or these Air Max’s accented with bits of neon are all bright options.
Cashmere
Last but certainly not least: cashmere. You really only need one perfect cashmere sweater to get you through the year. And if you already have one, well, one more wouldn’t hurt. Bloomingdale’s in-house cashmere line is a great way to get affordably priced cashmere, and I love the crewneck fit in this rich navy or pale pink, and the v-neck in this cornflower blue and heather gray.
