I try a LOT of things. Clothes, shoes, beauty products—you name it. Some are great, some are fine, and some definitely don’t make the cut. But every once in a while, I find something that becomes one of those pieces I reach for over and over again. The things I recommend to friends, pack when I travel and would be genuinely upset if they suddenly disappeared.
Which got me thinking: If I lost them tomorrow, what would I immediately buy again?
I ended up with five things, and I realized something else—they are all investment pieces. None of them was inexpensive, but they are also classic pieces that I’ve worn again and again and know I’ll continue to wear for years.
I’ve always believed that the real way to think about price is cost per wear. I would much rather spend more on something I love and wear constantly than buy something less expensive that ends up sitting in my closet. Here are the five things I’d replace in a heartbeat.
I loved these so much I bought them in two colors last year—and now they’re on sale! They may be the easiest, most comfortable pants I own. And when I say you can dress them up or down, I mean it. Sneakers and a tee, flats and a sweater, or a great jacket for dinner—they just work. I’d absolutely buy them again. Run!!!
I discovered this top at the end of last winter, and it carried me all the way through spring. As much as I love a cashmere sweater, I’ve found these merino crews to be the perfect layering piece—almost a hybrid between a tee and a sweater. Wear it on its own or layer it over a tee when it gets colder. And yes, I now own three colors. I can’t help myself. Definitely one I’d buy again.
