Barely-there sandals are the shoe of the season, and we can’t get enough of them. Like so many fashion trends, this one is recycled from years past with a new twist. Also known as the floss shoe or naked sandal, these strappy sandals might call to mind Sarah Jessica Parker’s Manolo moment. But there’s one major difference.; where Carrie Bradshaw wore hers brightly colored and dangerously high, this time around the shoe is low-heeled and usually in a muted earth tone or neutral.
The sleek little slip ons can even veer into retro territory. Brands like By Far are making kitten heeled slip-on mules that are particularly wearable. Speaking of wearable, there’s nothing easier or more comfortable than this flat snakeskin print Topshop pair.
Who started this trend? It seems like The Row’s version was the kickoff point, with the shoe popping up everyday from magazine editorials to street style blogs. If you don’t want to shell out that amount of cash for a trend, no worries. Try this excellent look-alike version from Mango in a delicious, summery mango shade.
And then there’s the question of how to wear them. That’s easy enough to answer – you can wear them with practically anything. We’re really into them with any midi or maxi skirt you have laying around. Trust us when we tell you they’re the MVP of wedding season. Just dressy enough to meet most dress codes, but comfortable enough to dance the night away in.
