This is our version of a Best of 2023 list: our absolute favorite things we’ve bought this year, from calf-hair leopard belts to denim we reach for every morning. As we ring in 2024, I just wanted to take a minute to express my gratitude for every one of you who’s read an email, followed us on Instagram, or shopped any of these stories. I’m looking forward to seeing what 2024 has in store for all of us.
It’s no surprise that most of the items on our list trend towards the classic side of things. You’ll always need a sweater or a pair of jeans, after all. But these ones are our absolute favorites, like the $50 Quince cashmere sweater that comes in tons of colors. Or these perfectly slouchy but still structured high-waisted jeans from Raey that I’ve gotten a compliment on every time I wear them.
Jenni Kayne’s waisted cardigan has a little more flair than the average knitwear piece, but it’s still easy enough to wear everyday. The same goes for Veronica Beard’s Miller blazer, which is still my go-to after a few years of the tailoring trend.
Often times, it’s the little things that can make an outfit really pop. Belts can seem like an unnecessary indulgence, but this calf-hair leopard print belt from J.Crew or Nili Lotan’s minimalist black leather and gold buckle belt can make any outfit instantly more interesting and put-together.
And in the non-clothing category, there are some super-practical things are also, to me, deeply luxurious. A 3-pound bucket of French Maldon finishing salt means you’ll have perfectly seasoned food all year long and an unbeatable price (22 dollars!). And if you’re a chef, you’ll love Diptyque’s new basil-scented La Drougerie kitchen candle which gets rid of lingering odors like garlic or onion. It also makes a truly fabulous hostess gift.
