Bridging The Gap With Bree Jacoby
Learning and growing – whether it’s this season’s trends or a new Instagram feature – keeps us plugged in to what’s happening around us. That’s why I’m starting a new feature called Bridging The Gap, where I talk with younger women in different industries who can teach me something new. Up first: Bree Jacoby, who is a fabulous stylist and someone I’m happy to call a friend. Read on to hear everything from Bree’s go-to outfit formulas to the affordable basics she loves.
Make sure to check out Bree’s website and her services. Use this link and get $100 off of your service.

Name, age, where do you live?

Bree Jacoby, 31, Studio City

Tell us a little bit about what you are doing now?

I just bought my very first home so I am really focusing on creating a really beautiful space with lots of neutrals (of course) and Kelly Wearstler hotel vibes! Professionally, I am working solely with VIP clients as our team expands! I’m working on my podcast and diving into the marketing side of my business! My Role has shifted a lot recently as I have cultivated a really great team of stylists!

It feels like ever since the pandemic, I’ve forgotten how to get dressed. How do you put together an outfit?

The pandemic is no excuse to throw on sweatpants everyday. There could be a zombie apocalypse and you still won’t find me in sweats! I think you need to change your mindset and get dressed for YOURSELF! Getting dressed and ready everyday is crucial to your confidence and accountability! If you want to get reinspired check out the Bree Jacoby pinterest pageand find a few looks that you want to emulate! Get out of those sweatpants and yoga pants, ladies! I’m over it!

Do you have any strategies for shopping, or knowing that you really love a piece?

Definitely! I suggest building a wishlist of your needs before you go out and start shopping, and if you want to find out what those things are, you can reach out to my team and we will help you *wink wink. I would never invest in anything “trendy”.

As a stylist what are the key elements everyone should have in their wardrobe?

Dress for your body type! You will know you’re dressing in a flattering way when you look in the mirror and feel sexy and confident. We’ve got one life to live, so if you’ve got it, flaunt it!

What are some of the brands you think are the most reliable?

I always find that I can count on Zara! They have great basics and stay on top of the most recent trends for a lower price point, but if you ask Cory Jacoby, (My stylish Mom) she will tell you to go to the Gap! For a higher price point Vince and Theory always have great quality basics that are worth the investment! Alice & Olivia and Veronica Beard are also reliable go to brands if you love a good pop of color and print!

What are some of your favorite outfit formulas?

Easy! You’ll never go wrong in a quality pair of dark wash denim, a classic white tee, a leather jacket or blazer thrown over your shoulders, a bootie, pump or classic sneaker, a pair of little gold hoop earrings chain necklace! Classic and timeless!

What should I be splurging on, and what should I save when it comes to my closet?

A BREE JACOBY membership so you never have to shop alone again! My top three staples to invest in are: a good premium pair of denim jeans, an elevated pair of sneakers, and jewelry!

And here are a few questions directly from you, the In The Groove community. Enjoy!

What should women over 60 not wear?

I am all about encouraging and empowering women of all ages, shapes and sizes to rock whatever they feel comfortable and confident in. There are so many ways to look age appropriate by still looking stylish and cool!. If I was being forced to pick one thing, I would say to stay away from a graphic band tee – otherwise, YOU DO YOU!

How can I disguise my post-menopause, wider waist?

I would invest in a really comfortable pair of Spanx and make sure not to size up or wear baggy clothes to try and hide your middle as you will end up looking bigger, not smaller!
I seem to like so many things! How do I figure out my personal style?
My recommendation would be to start slow: Find three looks that you really love and that you gravitate toward. I always start with the basics and build from there.

How can I dress to disguise broad shoulders?

If you want to distract  broad shoulders, distract from the shoulders and find things that accentuate the waist. Optical illusion baby!
