Fall’s biggest trend is surprisingly useful. The utilitarian looks we’re seeing everywhere are about marrying form and function in the best way. It’s less army surplus, and more safari chic. The color palette skews natural and neutral, with rich olive greens and chic khakis. Cargo pants with pockets, durable fabrics, and comfortable shoes are made for layering into easy, go-to outfits all season long.
Cargo pants have been one of the breakout stars of F/W 2022. People love them skinny and fitted, oversized and slouchy, and everything in between. On the more slim-fitting side, Nili Lotan’s cropped military pant is a signature of the brand, and we love it in white or army green. Banana Republic’s Heritage pant is an elevated version, with a high-waist, bilt-in belt, and perfect long length.J.Crew’s cargo pants feature an optional cinched hem, so you get two silhouettes in one pant. Combine two trends in one with these wide-leg khaki pants from H&M.
There are few pieces of clothing as useful as a jumpsuit, which provides you with an instant outfit. The Alex Mill jumpsuit is a favorite, especially with the flattering but comfy everyday fit in a navy. Banana Republic’s Heritage explorer jumpsuit cranks up the dramatics with a safari-inspired belt and pockets.
A flat, lace-up boots can add a little bit of edge to your favorite trousers or jeans. Anine Bing’s Luc combat boots feel throughly modern, thanks to the lug sole and branded yellow hardware. Madewell’s Patti lace up boots gives you a little bit of a heel too, at a friendlier price point.
Finally, finish off your outfit with an army jacket. It can rough up a polished outfit for contrast. For an elevated version, Anine Bing’s Army jacket does the trick. Rag & Bone’s Lorenz military jacket is an extra-sleek version, with clean lines. Banana Republic’s field jacket comes in a fun camo color way.
