Last week was Diane Keaton’s birthday, so naturally, I watched Something’s Gotta Give. It’s one of my favorite movies of all time, thanks to the gorgeous design and pretty Hamptons beaches. And of course, there’s the scene where Jack Nicholson cuts the pristine white turtleneck right off of Diane. It’s not just a styling choice either. Diane Keaton loves a turtleneck, and so do I. So, in her honor, I present: turtlenecks Diane Keaton would be proud of.
Diane Keaton loves a thin tissue turtleneck to wear as a layering piece underneath blazers or other sweaters, and it’s the perfect time of year to rock that look. Of course, J.Crew’s tissue turtleneck is about as good as it gets. It’s affordable, comfortable, and comes a wide range of colors. We’re talking black to leopard-print. Banana Republic’s Luxe Spun turtleneck lives up to its name, and Madewell even does a ribbed version, for your pleasure. Amazon Essentials, which continues to surprise us with their stylish basics, even has a hot pink top! Don’t worry, they have a charcoal gray, too. Sometimes, the best turtleneck isn’t even a sweater. It’s a t-shirt, as seen over at Everlane in this cozy waffle fabric.
There’s plenty of room in your closet for a statement turtleneck, too. I love a roomy, slouchy, oversized knit over a pair of straight leg pants for instant chic. Periwinkle blue isn’t a color I usually think of as elegant, but this COS sweater changed my mind. You can’t go wrong with camel, and the Cloud Turtleneck from Everlane is gorgeous. This colorblocked sweater over at Shopbop is an incredibly sophisticated take on neutrals.
