I know that a white t-shirt isn’t the most exciting item in your closet, but it might be your most important. Yes, it’s one of our pandemic staples of course, but the right kind of white t-shirt is also chic enough that it can be a signature look for the French editor-in-chief of Vogue.
Recently, I came to the conclusion that I wear white t-shirts more than anything else in my closet. So it was time to spend a little more money than the multi-pack of Hanes. This COS fitted shirt is my go-to for wearing underneath blazers or when I’m tucking into a pair of high-waisted jeans. You know I love a slightly oversized silhouette, and this COS t-shirt gives you oversized but with plenty of structure. I love the elbow-length sleeves on this H&M shirt, which is breezy and perfect for warmer weather.
J.Crew’s entire vintage-inspired t-shirts are great, because they give you that cozy, lived-in feel. The crewneck is a favorite, but I know plenty of people prefer a v-neck. Speaking of v-necks, it’s hard to do better than Madewell’s whisper cotton v-neck or Club Monaco’s v-neck.
It’s not my everyday t-shirt, but a ribbed shirt can help you switch up. The same goes for slub cotton! Splendid’s slub cotton long sleeve t-shirt is looser, and great for a half-tuck. Or as Tan from Queer Eye would call it, a French tuck. Madewell’s ribbed long-sleeve t-shirt is also great.
This is definitely a big splurge, but this Raey shirt in high-quality cotton gives you the same vibe as The Row t-shirts (slouchy and luxurious) but with a much lower price tag. Vince’s Essential Crew is on the pricier side, too, but we just love everything the brand does.
