When I saw this look, I gasped. I knew I wanted to turn it into an article. Everything about it just feels so exactly now – the French chicness, the quarter-zip sweater, the transitional winter to spring vibe. That’s why I’m calling it ‘French transitional chic’. Creative, right?
Let’s start with the sweater. This La Ligne blue and white striped half-zip sweater is nautical, a little bit retro, and all the way gorgeous. The weather is still chilly enough to wear it out and about right now, and in the summer when the sun goes down it’ll look perfect with white jeans. I’m obsessed with this deep-v, collared version in Mango’s version is an easy way to get the look for less.
The sweater should be paired with a slightly oversized, but still structured pair of denim in a light wash. Think looser through the leg, like these Anina jeans from Citizens of Humanity, this criss-cross pair from Pistola, or this wide-legged cropped pair from H&M.
Up next: white boots! It might feel a little late for boots, but the fresh little kitten heel and crisp white color keep this firmly in spring territory. Right now, wear with jeans, and in a few weeks you can rock with a swingy skirt. Try either Marc Fisher’s block heel or his slightly lower heel, but both will be comfortable.
Top it all off with the perfect piece of spring outerwear: the trench! April showers may be on their way, but that doesn’t mean you have to get caught in a downpour. Mango’s cotton-blend trench is a total classic, and Everlane’s Drape trench is kind of a deconstructed version.
Finally, since we’re out and about in the world again, it’s time for a purse! A navy bag ties it all together with a bow. Sometimes literally. This Tory Burch bag with a tassel is beautiful, as is the quilted MZ Wallace bag. Et voila! You’re ready to go.
