This spring, we hosted a Modern Makeover contest together with Womaness and Bree. We’re so excited to show everyone the results from our lucky winner, Punita! And because not everyone could win, we also rounded up helpful makeover tips from the stylists and makeup artists who helped with her transformation, so you can apply them to your own closet! The biggest takeaway? One of our favorite mantras: Less Is More.
Punita submitted herself for our Modern Makeover during a hard period of her life. She had her second bout of COVID on the heels of her breast cancer diagnosis, she’d just turned 60, and she wanted to update her style.
Even though she had taken great care of her clothes and had some really amazing pieces from years ago, the problem was that she was wearing them in the same exact way. In order to modernize, we styled Punita in white Mother Denim jeans with a cropped bootcut silhouette instead of her usual skinny jeans. We paired it with a navy Veronica Beard blazer, but the blazer will also breathe new life into the older pieces in her closet. We went with navy because it’s a softer, more flattering alternative to black. Sometimes all black can feel too severe and harsh.
When it comes to beauty, we come back to Less Is More. Layering on more makeup just makes you look cake-y. Instead, spend some extra time (and money!) on prepping your skin with moisturizers and primers. Womaness’ Neck serum, Vitamin C serum, and Plumping Retinol serum will help your skin look flawless, so you can show off your skin instead of covering up.
It’s time to put away the powders! Look for cream-based products, like Jouer’s blendable cheek and lip duo and their Bronze and Glow duo. The formula is hydrating, so it’ll nourish your skin. Instead of maximum coverage, focus on evening out the The makeup artist used Jouer,
You can’t look your best without feeling your best, so we also set Punita up with nutritionist Elissa Goodman. A few of her favorite tips: make sure to drink 16oz of water in the morning when you wake up, take a great multi-vitamin, and try to eat 80% plant-based and 20% clean animal protein.
