Last week, I dipped my style toes into stripes with our blue and white story. This week, I’m fully diving in. Stripes are graphic, modern, romantic, and I can’t get enough. After a long year of dressing in neutrals, I’m ready for a little more pattern in my life.
It’s also really fun to play with scale when it comes to stripes. A skinnier, horizontal stripe feels very French to me, like this boatneck t-shirt from J.Crew. They even look great on a pointed-toe ballet flat. This deconstructed blazer from Denimist has vertical stripes and a picture-perfect preppy feel that would look at home in a Ralph Lauren ad. If you feel a little more casual, this oversized button down can dress up your sweats or add some polish to your boyfriend jeans.
Large, even stripes feel graphic and modern like this Kule sweatshirt in beautiful bright colors or this Kule tote in a grassy green and white. Everyone should have at least one pair of slides for the gym or the pool, like these Adidas with the three stripes!I love the contrasting stripes on the neckline of this red-and-white Anthropologie sweater. The same thicker stripe/thinner stripe contrast of this mint green sweatshirt keeps things feeling fresh.
Not a pattern queen? You can add little pops of stripe with an accessory. I’ve been wearing headbands a lot lately on Zoom. I love this black-and-white band with a white t-shirt and lots of gold necklaces. When it gets a little warmer, this terrycloth headband will be perfect poolside. Speaking of poolside, how about some hot pink striped flip flops? Or this Isabel Marant tote? Whether it’s your shirt, your bag, or your shoes, everything’s coming up stripes.
