Whether you’re taking long meandering walks on a European vacation or just trekking through your favorite farmer’s market, a pair of summer sneakers is a must-have. You can’t go wrong with a white, retro-inspired pair, that you can even throw on with your go-to summer dress. Shop our favorites below.
I like a more classic, retro-inspired look in the summer. It feels very country club, very Robert Redford playing croquet in The Way We Were. Plus, they tend to feel more formal when the lines are cleaner! The classic sneaker brands do a really great job with this, because their shoes are classics. And the price tags usually come in under $100. Nike has their Killshot and the Nike Cortez are two of my favorites, because they have a certain 70s flair. And of course, we can’t talk about summer sneakers without Stan Smiths, the iconic tennis whites. I think they’re especially lovely with a breezy sundress.
Maybe you want something a little more modern. Nothing wrong with that! I recently got my first pair of New Balances, and I just love them. I love the way the fit, I love the more athletic, chunky look of the sneaker, which can bring some fun contrast to your outfits. They’re especially great for any more high-intensity walks or activity you might have. The 327s are a perfect combination of white and black. I also love this colorway, which is a more subdued white and beige and baby blue.
And if you’re really looking for a splurgeworthy showstopper, there are a few designer sneakers I’d love to bring to your attention. I love Veronica Beard‘s take, which is a bit chunkier. The iconic Common Projects sneakers have been a cult favorite forever.
