Boots are one of the greatest pleasures of fall, up there next to cashmere and spending all day slow-roasting some kind of pot roast or pasta sauce. Every year, I wait to put away my wedges and leather sandals and swap them out with socks. Sometimes, that means an over-the-knee showstopper or a shiny, sequined pair for holiday parties.
This year, I’m not as worried about that. It’s the year of the flat boot, for me, and I’m getting a little out of my comfort zone. And okay, I might throw in one pair of a not-too-high block heel pair just for fun.
In between a combat boot and full Victorian lace-up, I would wear these Vince boots everyday with jeans. With suede, leather, and snake all in black on this pair of Jeffrey Campbell boots, you get a lot of look that never gets too loud thanks to the all-black.
This lug-soled option from Ash is a more dramatic Chelsea boot, but perfect for someone who wants a little bit of height but no heel. It’s basically a really cool rain boot. If you’re looking for a classic rain boot, Everlane or J. Crew have you covered. This chocolate colored suede pair from Boden proves brown is just as much of a power color as black.
The pointy toe, low heel, and elastic around the ankle make this Aeyde boot the platonic ideal of a heeled boot this fall. These slightly higher heels with a squared-off toe are first on my list if we’re allowed to have any parties to ring in 2021.
The leather tie detail at the back of these Alexandre Birman boots are worth the splurge. If you’re up for a little heel, these Yuul Yie boots have a beautiful, sculptural heel.
