It would be silly to say that the polo is a trend. The shirt has been a classic in women’s closets for years now, but there’s something about the current crop that feels fresh again. Shop our edit of the season’s best polos to find your new go-to for the summer.
Let’s start with the classic: Ralph Lauren’s forever cool polo, complete with the iconic Ralph Lauren. You know it, you love it, you probably own it. It comes in tons of colors but I’ve always been partial to white. Maybe a pale pink for some subtle color! There are other kinds of this specific polo, in a sporty cut and cotton fabric. Lacoste’s pique polo is good on or off the court, and of course preppy stalwart Vineyard Vines has a great one too!
I think the real reason the polo is popping off this summer is because there have been a crop of slinkier, more louche knit options that conjure up European vacations and lounging by the pool. Take, for example, Wyeth’s navy knit polo with a white trim. It’s nautical and lightweight. Reiss’s white version with dark contrast trim is a perfect opposite. This cashmere-blend mesh polo in white works just as well as a swimsuit coverup as it does a top for your next night out.
Two of my favorite brands both have great options out in their summer collections. COS continues to deliver pieces that look way more expensive than their price tag, like this slightly oversized cotton polo in white. I love the longer proportions of it, with sleeves down to the elbow and a hemline that covers your butt. And of course, you can count on Tory Burch. The retro vibes of this pink-and-tan polo or this blue-and-green chevron design polo will look great on the golf course, but I’m planning on wearing them with Bermuda shorts and a chic minimalist sandal too.
