I don’t like touching any part of the plane upholstery, so that means long sleeves and long pants for me. For your base layer, a nice long sleeve tee keeps you covered even if you take off your sweater halfway through the the flight. Leset’s pointelle tee has been a recent favorite. When to pants, comfort comes first. There are so many black trousers we’ve done a double take over – because they’re actually made from the stretchy, leggings-y fabric! Spanx is top of the line, but we also love Banana Republic’s Ponte pant and AYR’s High Hopes.
Planes are cold. This much we know. The key to a successful and stylish travel uniform is layers! You want a sweater to wear when the plane is cold, and a jacket to throw over that when you leave the airport and start your vacation. You don’t need to overthink the sweater! Quince’s $50 cashmere crew and J.Crew’s classic-fit cashmere sweater are two old favorites.
A neutral sneaker is a must-have for flying. It pulls double duty: keeps you comfy on the plane and wearing them saves you valuable suitcase space. You’re going for versatility here, so you want something that will go with everything. That’s why I’m drawn to black with some white accents, like this New Balance pair or a higher end pair like these Loewes or these Veronica Beards.
And for the final flourish? A scarf! You can tie it around your purse, your neck, your hair, your waist. It’s a superstar when it comes to styling, especially with a more limited wardrobe. This could be a big ticket stemlike a gorgeous old Hermes scarf from the Real Real. Or something a little more budget-friendly, like this fun leopard print option from Nordstrom.
