When was the last time you got away on a vacation? In a post-vaccine world, a quick weekend trip is one of the things I’m most excited for, and with the CDC’s new announcement, Memorial Day weekend travel is going to be record-breaking. But it’s been a while since I had to dress for flying, so here’s my guide to traveling in style.
First, a workshirt. These are dressy enough that it won’t feel sloppy, but comfortable enough that you won’t feel constricted. I like to wear a shirt underneath sometimes, too, for easy layering that you can add or take off depending on plane temperature. Alex Mill’s shirt is classic, but Gap’s or J.Crew’s also fits the bill.
Next, a sleek, somewhat tailored pair of comfy pants. Don’t overthink it! Sometimes that just means an easy, pull-on pant like this sky-blue linen pair or these khaki J.Crew ones. A jogger is perfect, because the tapered leg totally elevates what are basically fancy sweats. These Nike pants in a performance fabric are a fun spin, too.
Admittedly, Birkenstocks are not the best shoes to wear on the plane, but they are a perfect shoe to pack for your weekend away. They’re comfortable enough to sightsee in, cool enough for the beach or pool, and dressed up enough for happy hour. You can go for a sporty white, sleek silver, or a trendy camo.
Finally, because you should never travel without one, don’t forget to toss a cashmere wrap or sweater into your carry-on. As always, we can count on J.Crew to have a perfectly XL sized wrap, and this one in gray too!
Because of how long we’ve all been at home, chances are your luggage could use a refresher. There are so many chic weekenders out there, like this all-black number from Cuyana, this monogrammed leather-and-canvas duffel, or this nautical blue and white version.
