What To Pack and Where To Go For 72 Hours In NYC

A surprise, a party, and what I packed to make it all work.

What To Pack and Where To Go For 72 Hours In NYC

This past weekend I flew to NYC for 72 hours. My daughter Kim turned 40. Yikes—did I just say 40?! Let’s be clear, this was not about me… but I will say, having a child turn 40 will definitely give you a moment.  Originally, I wasn’t going to go. And then I thought… am I kidding? Of course I’m going.

So I decided to surprise her. With a little help from Jackie, we pulled it off perfectly—no travel drama, no delays. Even TSA cooperated! It turned out to be one of those perfect New York weekends—clear, a little chilly, and full of energy.

Saturday was the big day. Breakfast at Balthazar (always a favorite), then Jackie and I headed uptown and did what New York does best… walked and wandered. Belgian Shoes (I couldn’t resist), a quick Tiffany’s moment (because… Audrey), and a little Madison Avenue browsing—including a stop at Frank & Eileen, which I loved seeing in person.

We pulled off the surprise at Casa Tua in The Surrey. Lunch was one of those “order everything” situations (no regrets). After, we visited the newly reopened Frick Museum—absolutely stunning. And then, the grand finale: a big birthday party in Little Italy with so many of Kim’s friends—lots of energy, lots of laughter, and one very celebrated birthday girl.

For a quick trip, I kept things simple: mostly black, with a pop of yellow (you know I’m having a moment). When everything works together, packing—and getting dressed—becomes so much easier.

72 hours, a perfect surprise, and a weekend I won’t forget anytime soon. And a little reminder to myself—always go. If you want a wardrobe that makes getting dressed this easy, start with pieces that actually work together.

Because style isn’t about having more—it’s about having the right things. Here are a few pieces that carried me through the weekend in comfort and style:

Frame Le Slim Palazzo Pants

These Frame leather pants are definitelyan investment but I cant even begin to tell you how many times I have worn them. They literally can take you anywhere. You can dress them up or throw them on with a sneaker and you will always look fabulous. CPW- cost per wearing is very low for these.

Leset Margo Long Sleeve Tee

I love Leset tees and this long sleeve one has become my new favorite. I took it with me in black and white. Great for layering and looks good on its own.

Tuckernuck Straw Hannah Turtleneck

I love this sweater. It is very cozy and goes with all kinds of colors. Plus – it’s on sale!!!

Banana Republic Wide Leg Ponte Pant

These are my go to pants for everything. They are great to travel with because they don’t wrinkle. Below, my full edit:
