Slides are high fashion. Yes, you read that right. The preferred shoes of men’s locker rooms everywhere is now high fashion. There’s been a wave of ugly shoes trending: Birkenstocks, Tevas, and now plastic slides. All three categories are comfortable and practical, so we’re not mad about it. Most suprisingly, designers have found genuinely interesting ways to elevate the humble silhouettes.
You might think of Adidas or Nike when you see these shoes, but they’re good for so much more than shuffling in between the pool and the locker room. How do you wear them? We love them with cropped jeans and a white t-shirt. This Burberry pair in the iconic tartan is a great way to dress up the shoe. This white pair from Dr. Scholls is surprisingly dressy, thanks to the subtle gold hardware and complete white out. They would look great with slouchy boyfriend jeans and a statement blouse. Are you dressing from the feet up? Try this bright pink, floral Ted Baker option.
But everything doesn’t have to be a fashion moment. It’s summer, it’s hot out, and sometimes the idea of putting on socks and shoes is just too much to bear. Classics are classic for a reason, and if you truly just need a pair of shoes to wear around the house or to your next pool party, Adidas is the way to go. You can go with the signature black and white pair, or update it with a soft pastel pink.
