For better or worse, sweatshirts have become the new blazers in fashion. Sweatshirts have gone from being an item you sweat it to the must-have item people spend thousands of dollars on and show off on Instagram. Even luxury brands haven’t been able to resist the urge, with houses like Gucci, Balenciaga, and Valentino all sending models down the runway in hoodies and crewnecks.
The point is, there’s no reason you shouldn’t be joining in on the cool and casual fun. Especially as we head into late summer, where it’s hot during the day and suddenly colder at night. Keep a sweatshirt on hand to easily solve the problem of transitional dressing. The only question you’ll have to ask is which sweatshirt?
This is the fun part. One of the biggest trends this summer was bright, saturated hues. Tory Sport, Tory Burch’s new sports line, has a cheery, crisp sweatshirt in a bright orange that’ll move into fall effortlessly. J.Crew’s hot pink crewneck is also an excellent (and affordable) option.
Looking for something with a little more personality? Comme De Garcon’s Play cream hoodie is contemporary and cool as always, with their wide-eyed heart mascot. Tap into the athleisure trend with Nike’s sporty, retro colorblock that would look just as good at the gym as with jeans.
Are you in the mood to really, really indulge? As usual, Gucci understands. The standout sweatshirt this season in their collection is slightly oversized, covered in tigers, and still embroidered with the Gucci logo. It’s a lot, but sometimes you need to be just a little bit extra.
