A jacket can instantly make an outfit better. I just feel more put together, more polished, more dressed when I can throw a coat on. Investing in transitional jackets means you can look good every single day when the temperature drops. Below, a few of our favorites for the fall.
Every year, there is a Hot Jacket. This year, it’s the barn coat. Prada and Miu Miu have made the utility coat the must-have item of the season, but luckily you don’t have to shell out thousands of dollars to get the look. My current favorite is this toffee brown Mango coat, complete with toggles and dark brown accents. A sleeker, cropped Mango option is good too! Pendleton has always made jackets like this, and their Hazel canvas jacket is an updated classic.
Coats can get speedy, but they’re also a piece worth making an investment in. If you’re really going to splurge, invest in something as classic-but-modern as this Saks Potts brown suede coat. It’ll take you through winter! I’m wearing this double layer bomber jacket from 3.1 Phillip Lim in the header photo. I love the fresh take on a familiar silhouette. It’s very couture, very Commes des Garçons. But still totally wearable and unique! The neutral color really tones down the more out-there shape.
The trench coat: not just for rainy days in London. Especially the decidedly more modern cropped version that’s popping up everywhere this fall. I love the more dramatic swoosh of the silhouette. H&M’s version is very swingy, but my favorite is this khaki COS coat with a detachable, ladylike hood that ties around the neck. Like Grace Kelly protecting her hair from the wind, but in coat form!
