Slowly but surely, things are starting to open up again. I’m not talking about sporting events or restaurants or weddings, as lovely as that would be. I mean more like maybe you can finally get your hair cut, or walking to your neighbor’s house for a socially distant cocktail. And as we embark on these newly exciting adventures, it’s time to get out of our sweats.
I know it’s been a long two months of elastic waists and athleisure. I’m not saying we’re jumping right to stiff high-waisted jeans and pencil-thin stilettos. There’s a comfortable but still chic middle ground out there, and that’s what this edit is all about.
Let’s start on the bottom. Elastic-waist isn’t necessarily a bad thing, especially when the pants are as polished as these Everlane easy chinos in a crisp white. Or if white isn’t your thing, the black are just as great. Take baby steps back towards your jeans with these cotton twill pants from Alex Mill in an army green. Pair any pant with an unrestrictive top, like this summer-weight cardigan from Club Monaco. Or this boho, romantic white blouse.
In the mood for a dress? This dramatic, insanely cool-looking oversized dress from Mango in a lemony yellow reminds me of Valentino’s latest collection. Craving something with a little more shape? This Equipment shirtdress cinches at the waist with a drawstring. If you get cold, then throw on this easy kimono for an added layer.
Finally, shoes. As we start cramming our feet into shoes regularly for the first time in months, you have to take it easy. For me, that means a rotating selection of minimal leather sandals, like these crossover sandals from Everlane or these taupe-colored leather slides. And of course, you can’t forget your sneakers. I love these embellished Adidas superstars.
