Have you noticed that J.Crew looks really good lately? It feels relevant and exciting in a way that it hasn’t since the Jenna Lyons days. And there’s one woman to thank for it all: Olympia Gayot, the head of woman’s design. Olympia has become a bonafide style star on Instagram, where she shares daily snaps of her inspiring outfits. We put together an edit of our favorite pieces from their summer collection that we keep reaching for right now.
The summer collection is completely in sync with our vibe. Think tons of bright whites, with pops of color dotted throughout. We could write the whole article about their denim alone, but we’ll stick to just a paragraph. Whatever cut you want, they have. Cropped boot-cut? Check. Straight-cut jean? Absolutely. Slouchy boyfriend chino? You know it. Stretch denim with flares? Mmmhmm.
So now you’ve got your bottoms. Time for a new top! The best J.Crew pieces are American basics that have been tweaked for right now, so they feel fresh. I love this pointelle short sleeve sweater, which has just enough retro appeal. This cashmere cable-knit henley t-shirt is feather light, and comes in tons of colors, although I’m partial to the poppy red. You can’t go wrong with a linen shirt, in either a blousy short sleeve or a more traditional long sleeve version.
Olympia herself has said she loves the new J.Crew suits, and I coudn’t agree more with her. I bought a Drapey Cupro suit a few months ago to attend a bridal shower, and I’m surprised at how often I’m wearing it – both together and as separates. The new color for summer is called Pressed Avocado, and it’s for the color fanatics. But don’t worry, it comes in a more mellow ivory shade too.
Dresses aren’t just for being dressed up, and sometimes they’re the easiest thing to grab and throw on when you don’t want to think about an outfit. This Anguilla halter dress is an absolute showstopper, while this tiered floral maxi dress is a perfect low-key day dress.
