The polo is a preppy staple, but this season it’s getting a makeover. Brightly colored polos, sporty stripes, and sleek silhouettes turn the humble polo into a more elevated, interesting piece to play around with this spring. Shop our favorites now.
This season’s knit polo is all about giving the sporty silhouette an upgrade. We’re upgrading from the classic cotton into slightly dressier fabrics like merino wool or blends that elevate the silhouette. Leset’s navy blue James polo is a perfect example. I love the subtle fluttering of the sleeves and the cropped length, which looks great with high-waisted pants or a pretty A-line skirt.
A lot of the knit polos have a certain 70s appeal. Think a little more fitted, and a fabulous collar. Look at this Reformation’s Bentley polo sweater. Wouldn’t it look beautiful tucked into a fabulous pair of dark wash denim flares and aviators? This Joe’s pointelle sweater, J.Crew’s denim contrast polo top, or Mango’s cream sweater all have the same vibe.
For a beachier take on the trend, I love this open-knit baby blue crochet polo. The long sleeve adds a little extra coverage, and the crochet shows a little skin without going over the top. Imagine it with a pair of boyfriend-inspired white jeans or kick-around brown linen pants. Texture is the key to a great outfit, and this royal blue Frame polo is a more subtle option than crochet. The ribbing is subtle, but adds a little something special.
When you think of a polo, you probably think of the iconic Ralph Lauren cotton number. I love the sporty, casual look and how easy it is to style. Personally, I wear mine just as often with beat-up jeans running errands as I do with my favorite skirt on the pickleball court.
