What goes around comes around, and that’s never more true than with fashion. Matching sets have always been chic. In fact, it’s the basis of true American sportswear – and I’m not talking about athleisure. Which brings me to today’s article: the updated sweater and dress combo. It used to be all about a cardigan and a dress, or a sweater set. Now, All Saints has given us an even more adaptable set.
It also happens to make a perfect transitional piece. I’m all for bringing a shawl or pashmina with me, in case of a chilly night, but it’s much better when the piece was designed to go with your dress! In the header image, I’m wearing this midnight blue silk and sweater slip dress. I love the contrast of the silk and the knit, the slinky cut of the dress and the oversized drape of the sweater. It combines so many of the things I love about clothes and getting dressed.
To go with it? This really adorable Kate Spade Shaggy Dog purse, which reminds me of my her old wicker masterpieces and these tobacco brown suede slingbacks. The retro bow fasten and silhouette give off a new Working Girl vibe I can never resist.
But, All Saints is giving you more than one option. If you’re looking for something equally dressy, try this Amos option. It has the same slinky appeal in an inky black but with a rougher ribbed sweater. An even bigger dramatic contrast! The Margot dresses are cut from a sweater-y material perfect for fall, especially in a rich olive green or black. I would style with a really tall boot! This pea green, short sleeved Hayes dress and sweater have a wild optimism to it that reminds me of spring, but for fall I would add touches of dark brown to ground it a bit.
