At the end of August, no matter where I am or how old I get, I can never shake the feeling that it’s time to go back to school shopping. These days, instead of stocking up on new notebooks and pens, I turn towards my closet. Luckily, Bloomingdale’s has all of the things I need for fall in one easy place. Think lots of dark denim, transitional jackets, and fashionable flats.
Let’s start with denim. In the fall, before it gets really cold, jeans are what set the tone for my outfits. After a summer of linen pants and white jeans, putting on a pair of new jeans really signifies the changing of the season. These Anine Bing high-waisted jeans are the perfect bridge between summer and fall. Not too heavy, and just mid-wash enough. I love these dramatic AQUA jeans, too! The cropped length, the deep blue wash, and the slightly cropped length are perfect now with ballet flats and boots later.
Lady jackets were a huge trend last year, and they’re not going anywhere! I’m wearing this Veronica Beard tweed jacket in the header image. I love the Chanel vibe, of course! But really it’s the contrast of the light blue, camel, and ivory color palette and the textured tweed that eases the outfit into fall territory. The militaristic cut of this navy Rag & Bone blazer, complete with shiny gold buttons, is begging for a crisp wind.
And look, I’m ready to put away my sandals. I’m sick of my flip flops. But it’s not time for boots yet. That leaves us with fashion’s favorite shoe recently: the flat! I’m wearing these black-and-tan ballet flats from Tory Burch (that bear a certain resemblance to another famous designer). But, if I’m splurging on a new flat this year, it’ll be these black pointy-toed horse bit Gucci flats.
