Bamboo and cane are both iconic ways to add a little bit of texture to your warm weather wardrobe. After all, Princess Diana’s signature bag featured some! But you don’t have to be royalty to rock this timeless trend, and there are so many ways to do it. You can go for a bamboo handle, like Princess Di. Maybe a new belt to add some polish to your favorite jeans, or even some rattan details on your shoes to welcome in spring and summer.
Shoes: Nothing says summer like sandals, except for woven sandals! Loeffler Randall’s puffy, braided sandals bring a beachy-meets-Bottega Veneta vibe, like these tan block-heel shoes or this flat slip-on sandal. Sam Edelman’s raffia-meets-leather slides go with everything, and reminds me of my worn-out Hermes sandals. A comfy block heel with a bamboo belt buckle elevates your favorites drawstring pants, but look just as good with your colorful sundresses.
Bags: Let’s start high, shall we? Gucci brought back Princess Di’s favorite bag, and they even named it The Diana. But this is not the kind of item you need to shell out big bucks for. Mark and Graham makes a gorgeous tote that is deeply elegant in its simplicity – just a leash tote with bamboo handles and your monogram. Frances Valentine combines rattan and bamboo for a woven bag in a lunchbox shape perfect for summer days.
Belts: I love the look of chocolate brown with the bright khaki shade of bamboo, and this J.McLaughlin Finley belt shows why it works so well. Their Dixie belt is an interesting contrast between the texture of linen and bamboo, which I think is the right way to do neutrals. I’d wear any of them with white jeans and easy slides for the bottom half of my summer uniform.
