It’s the most wonderful time of the year: sequins season. As you flit from party to party during the month, all of the holiday looks start to blur together. Throw on a little black dress or pants with festive shoes and accessories and you’ll always have a winning ensemble, but we wanted to get out of our sartorial comfort zones. So we looked to style icon Jenna Lyons to help us do it.
Her absolutely iconic outfit served as the inspiration for our new formula for holiday dressing. It’s easy, we promise. Take one statement skirt with an unexpected element. Whether that means a color that doesn’t necessarily read as festive or extra-big sequins, keep it super-feminine. We love this blush tulle maxi skirt from one of our favorite brands, Raey. Or this paillette skirt from J.Crew.
Throw on a white button-down on top for the perfect masculine-feminine mix. If a button-down isn’t your thing, then go for something luxe but plain, like a cashmere crewneck sweater. Finally, top it all off with an attention-grabbing coat. We love this extreme sequined H&M jacket. Or pick a faux-fur one in a similar color palette to the skirt for the ultimate in monochromatic cool.
And because it’s the season of sparkle, don’t forget your accessories. Maybe it’s a killer pair of enormous crystal chandelier earrings, which we’re even wearing with jeans and a t-shirt these days. These crystal fringe ones from Intermix are undeniably glamourous. Or a giant cuff from Frances Valentine that anyone would be happy to have jangling from their wrist
