If you asked me what my perfect summer day is, I would tell you it’s a good book, a body of water, and a glass of cold French white wine. But I can’t read my book without readers these days! So I’ve picked out the best beach reads and the most stylish Caddis readers to go with them. Have a very happy holiday weekend!
Let me start with something dishy. I’ve already bought and read Elizabeth Beller’s Once Upon a Time. I’ve always been fascinated with Carolyn Bessette-Kennedy. I know a lot of ITG readers agree with me! This deep dive into CBK is a fascinating, loving portrayal with insights from some of the people who loved her the most. A tragic and compelling look into one of America’s most iconic style icons requires an equally timeless reader like the bestselling black Miklos glasses.
For the holiday weekend, I’m most excited about tucking into Sandwich by Catherine Newman. It has everything you want in a beach read: multi-generational family drama, a family beach house in Cape Cod, and lots to laugh about (including the protagonist’s menopause). Pair with ocean blue oversized specs.
I read a lot of short story collections in the summer, because it’s as easy to dip between stories as it is to dip into the pool. Amor Towles, of A Gentleman in Moscow fame, has Table for Two, new collection of short stories set in New York that are every bit as glittering and sharp as his other fabulous works. The Gramophone round frames recall a more romantic, civilized time – just like Amor Towle’s writing.
These gold aviator sunglasses don’t perfectly pair with one of our book picks, but I just love them. I feel like Tom Cruise in Top Gun whenever I rock aviators, and what’s more perfect for the Fourth of July?
