It’s harder for me to get inspired in warm weather dressing. Recently though, the Bermuda short is back with the fashion set and these longer, tailored shorts have been the center of some seriously chic outfits. If you’re still wearing Daisy Dukes, more power to you – but you won’t find any here.
One of the worst part about dressing for summer? It’s just so hot out! I am trying to minimize sweat here, people. Enter linen, one of my favorite fabrics because you get the visual texture but also a breathability that keeps things breezy. It also adds a bit of polish to a longer short, making it feel more like tailoring. This salmon pink Veronica Beard pair, these khaki J.McLaughlin shorts, and of course a black pair from my beloved J.Crew are all great examples.
It’s a summer of color for me, and I’m planning on reaching for more than just my white denim this year. Pleated mint green shorts from Mango are as fresh as the color’s namesake. Of course J.Crew has tons of great colors and silhouettes, like a bubblegum pink pair of chino shorts or a pretty lilac pleated short are two of my favorites. And if you’re feeling really wild, go for a neon pink pair from Talbots that will punch up any outfit.
Long denim shorts are having a bit of a moment, and while I wasn’t sure of it at first, I’ve been eyeing a few pairs that seem special. You can always count on COS for effortlessly structured, slouchy pieces that look more expensive than they are, and their denim shorts are no different. These Anthropologie shorts are a little bit longer and cut close to the body.
