Call it tomboy, call it menswear-inspired. Whether you think of Julia Roberts in suiting at the Golden Globes, or Lauren Hutton in her signature men’s shirt borrowing from the boys has always been a classic look. And summer is the perfect time to adopt it! Breezy oversized shirt, comfy sneakers, and timeless khakis is an outfit formula that every stylish woman should have in her closet.
When it comes to nailing the menswear-inspired shirt, you need something a little more relaxed – especially though the waist. The Everlane Relaxed Oxford shirt is a great version of a menswear-inspired shirting that’s still tailored enough to fit. Get yours in blue or pink! HommeGirl’s embroidered cotton-poplin shirt is made in Italy, and a bit of a splurge. But worth it!
Our very own collaboration with Clare V is an amazing shirt that you can tuck in, leave out, and do just about anything in. Go for it in classic white or a blue-and-white stripe! Speaking of stripes, AYR’s The Deep End comes in two different stripe sizes: a thinner stripe and a thicker stripe.
Moving on to the khakis! You want a certain slouchy, wider fit on these instead of the usual skinnies. J.Crew’s wide-leg pleated fit is a great option, and you can’t go wrong with our favorite Frank & Eileen chinos. J.Crew has a pant that’s literally called the slouchy boyfriend chino and it comes in tons of colors. Nili Lotan’s Jenna pants are a slimmer fit with fun utilitarian details. Need something a little more cropped? Then Tommy Bahama’s Boracay cropped pants are the ones for you.
Time for sneakers! Go for something a little more retro-inspired and neutral, like Adidas Superstars, Stan Smiths, or Nike Daybreaks. Finish it all off with a hat and aviators.
