To me, there’s nothing sexier than women wearing menswear. Tomboy style isn’t about showing skin, it’s about an attitude. A slightly oversized button down, menswear inspired trousers, and modern suiting are some of the pieces I wear over and over again. It’s comfortable but still chic, effortless but elegant. What more can you ask for?
The three must-have pieces for me right now are 1) a crisp, oversized button-down 2) perfectly tailored chinos and 3) sneakers. Let’s start up top. In winter, you can always go oxford, but during the warmer months I always go for a cotton poplin. Mango has a well-structured but roomy shirt I’ve been wearing a lot of, and it’s affordable enough to be able to stock up on the white, blue, and pale pink colors. I love the subtle white-and-blue stripe of this H&M shirt. If you really want to treat yourself, pick up a Frank & Eileen button down in either white or blue.
There’s a little bit more to choose from when it comes to the right pair of chinos for you. The J.Crew slouchy boyfriend chino in tan is about as classic as you can get. Just looking at them makes me feel like I’m on an East Coast beach, especially if you switch out the tan for a petal pink. Jenni Kayne’s twill khaki trousers feel like the perfect updated take – totally classic with a modern spin. Maybe you’re in the mood for a retro-inspired pleated pair from COS? These clean, cotton wide-leg pants are black but still breezy, and incredibly chic.
Finally, time to slip into those sneakers and sunglasses. A white sneaker is as classic as you can get. Preppy but still cool enough for downtown, I always have a pair of Adidas Superstars in rotation. J.Crew’s new collab with New Balance is retro and nostalgic, which you can cop in navy. Just throw on your favorite pair of aviators and you’re ready to go.
