We’re approaching my favorite time of the year: sweater season. There is so much more out there, but today we’re diving into the wonder world of textured knitwear. More specifically, today is all about cable-knit. And the new wave of cable-knit is reinventing the classics with new patterns and unexpected sizes, giving a fresh feel to an old favorite. It’s an easy way to add a little more visual interest to your outfit, and make getting dressed more fun.
J.Crew’s cotton-cashmere blend sweater has a drop-sleeve and a straight across mock neck that gives this a little bit more flair than the standard. They also have a relaxed fit one in a pretty pink that would look great with dark denim.
We’ve been wearing a lot of cardigans lately, because they’re a perfect transitional piece. Mango’s extra-long white knit version, this Ralph Lauren cropped boyfriend cardigan, and this slim-cut Club Monaco top are all favorites.
Let’s get into the luxe stuff. Chances are when you think of cable-knit, you think of Ralph Lauren – and he doesn’t disappoint. Go for the classic cotton crewneck in a creamy white, a waist-defining buckled wrap sweater in camel, or really go for it with a cozy cashmere turtleneck or relaxed v-neck.
Theory has two gorgeous offerings this season. One is an oversized cardigan perfect for layering in an oatmeal shade, and the other is a slouchy white cashmere crewneck with a more modern take on the cable knit pattern. This Secas sweater is an oversized cashmere and wool blend that is perfect for the cold days ahead.
You don’t have to break the bank to get in on this trend, though. H&M’s cable-knits are available in charcoal gray and white. Vero Moda’s cropped cardigan comes in a cheery blue. Free People’s creative knit work on this camel sweater is a must-have.
