Chambray shirts, and denim in general, are one of America’s greatest contribution’s to fashion. The workhorse shirt goes with just about everything in your closet, including your favorite jeans. It’s also a transitional MVP, because you can easily layer it to adjust to chilly air conditioning and hot afternoons. We put together an edit of the most stylish chambray shirts out there so you can refresh this closet staple.
Denim is having a bit of a moment, with fashion’s It girls all rocking a darker indigo version of the shirts this season. Rag & Bone’s Western shirt is a darker color and has extra details like utilitarian pockets that elevate it from a basic into something special. COS’s denim shirt has dropped seam shoulders and a curved hem that would look extremely good in a Canadian tuxedo. AG Jeans has a more casual version with their Cade shirt.
One of my favorite ways to wear a chambray shirt is tucked into my boyfriend fit jeans. One of the easiest ways to smoothly tuck is with a slim-cut top. J.Crew’s slim-cut shirt, Banana Republic’s version, and Ralph Lauren’s chambray top are all amazing contenders.
On the opposite side of the spectrum, a more oversized shirt is easy to wear as a light jacket during transitional months. Alex Mill’s Westin jacket is a perfect example – it even has extra side pockets for storage! Mango’s version is a lighter wash for a more casual vibe, and Raey’s boxy, loose version is borrowed straight from the boys.
Maybe you want something a little less typical. Frame’s The Beach shirt helps you channel some sun drenched charm with it’s faded and barely striped light blue shirt. On the opposite end of the spectrum, Chloe’s button-down is a prim take on the classic, with a cropped fit and heavy duty hardware.
