Drawstring pants have been popping up all over my Instagram feed, but it looks a little different this summer. It seems to come in every color and fabric, from poplin to linen, striped to cherry red. They feel easier to elevate than ever – and are a welcome upgrade to any of your tired summer sweats.
Banana Republic has some really great options in colorful shades that get you out of the neutral zone. A periwinkle blue color and poppy red both make a better statement than the beiges and light blues we’ve been talking about. In fact, the periwinkle blue pair is what I’m wearing in the header. And a deep navy color from XIRENA in a crinkly gauze fabric is a safer color bet. J.Crew’s navy cropped pant is a great option, too.
Linen and texture make the drawstring pant feel a little more pulled together and a little less pajama. A blue-and-white stripe from J.Crew is the perfect pant for the high temp dog days of summer. I also love the idea of wearing it with a linen blazer and rolled up sleeves as we head towards transitional dressing. Mango’s striped pair also has some beautiful white embroidery on the cuffs, adding a special little surprise detail. If you’re into the eyelet, Splendid’s white gauzy pair has eyelet detailing all over the pockets for a subtle touch.
Chambray, one of the great American contributions to fashion, has all the fun of denim but a much lighter fabric. I love the slightly wide leg on these Splendid pants, which gives just enough structure to elevate the whole look. If chambray isn’t your thing, swap it out for a different fabric with the same silhouette like this greenish blue color.
