With September right around the corner, I’m dreaming of a fall wardrobe filled with cashmere sweaters and leather boots. We’re not quite there yet, but there are a few essentials I’m shopping for now so I’ll be ready when the time comes. From a little something leopard to this season’s loafers, our editor fall essentials are the building block of any stylish wardrobe.
Let’s start with the categories we can wear right this second, shall we? It might be too hot to wear in direct sunlight, but I love a blazer in the summer because it’s the perfect solution to the welcome cold of air conditioning. & Other Stories double-breasted jacket is a proper tailoring moment buttoned, and a swing-y jacket vibe if you let them loose. I love the extreme chicness of this Italian wool, slim-cut, single-buttoned Banana Republic number. Veronica Beard’s iconic Miller jacket ups the drama with gorgeous gold buttons for a nautical meets glam vibe.
You really only need a few key pairs of denim. A straight-leg cut, like AYR’s cult-like The Pop pair that are perfectly cropped. A bootcut pair like J.Crew’s skinny flare in a gorgeous dark indigo, because we are talking about fall here. And finally, a comfy pair with some slouch like Frame Denim’s Le Slouch.
When it comes to cashmere, I believe it’s like hair in Texas: the bigger, the better. I’m always searching out that borrowed from the boys vibe. Something slouchy, lived-in, and effortless like this Jenni Kayne Boyfriend sweater or their v-necked Flynn sweater. I love a good loafer, and this year I’m into a chunkier version. Aeyde’s pair balances the height with perfectly prim proportions so it doesn’t feel too 90s riot girl. Banana Republic’s lug-sole adds extra personality.
And because I can’t resist, it’s always good to have a little something leopard, like this calf-hair belt for the perfect finishing touch.
