I hope you’ve all cracked open your September issues, paged through them, and found yourself craving crisp air and sweaters. It’s time to talk about our fall essentials: switch out the Bermuda shorts for a fresh pair of dark denim, stock up on long-sleeve tees, and finally (finally) break out your cashmere sweaters. Goodbye sandals, hello black leather boots. Oh, and don’t forget to grab a jacket on your way out of the house – it’s fall now, remember? You don’t want to get chilly.
Utility Jacket
An army jacket is the perfect in-between piece. It’s not too heavy or too light, it comes with a ton of pockets, and usually it’s a neutral. Gap, Anthropologie, and Velvet all make great ones. For a more high-fashion take on the jacket, Anine Bing’s super-structured shoulders and streamlined silhouette turn it into a statement piece.
Cashmere
I don’t need to tell you why cashmere’s great. You already know! Stock up on more affordable but still luxe pieces like a black balloon sleeve sweater, a fitted crewneck in a pretty blue, or a swing-y high/low black sweater. These are the kinds of pieces you can wear everyday.
Long Sleeve Tee
Speaking of everyday, there’s nothing I wear more than t-shirts and when the temperature drops, it’s time to swap out those sleeves. Long sleeve tees make layering a breeze, whether you go for a slim scoop-neck or more of a classic crew. Michael Kors slub-neck tees have always been a favorite, too.
Dark Denim
Say goodbye to those sunbleached summer jeans, and hello to the true American blues. Whether you go full indigo or even reach for black, dark denim is an easy way to step into fall. Frame’s premium Le Italian cut is worth the money,
Boot
It’s boot season! Keep it classic and comfortable in a block heel that won’t kill your feet like these black Marc Fisher LTD’s booties. Looking to treat yourself? These Gucci boots have a low heel, the signature horsebit buckle, and just enough to edge to step your daily outfits.
Purse
All pandemic I’ve been rocking a fanny pack, and I’m finally switching back to something a little more elevated. A timeless bag like this Gucci Marmont shoulder bag is always a good idea, or go for a Saint Laurent if you want something a little more low-key. And don’t worry, it doesn’t have to break the bank. This Tory Burch pebble bag, this DeMillier bag, or this mini Mango shopper all do the trick too.
