There’s nothing wrong with wearing your favorite leggings out and about, but I always feel better in a real outfit. Swap out your athleisure for something a little more polished with these five pairs of black pants.
Just because you’re in real pants doesn’t mean you have to sacrifice comfort! One of the biggest trends of the last few years has been the rise of the kick flare pant. The retro-inspired silhouette is still stretchy and comfy, with a lot of the same comfy benefits of leggings. I like the ribbed element to this J.Crew pair, and Quince’s Ponte pant has a straighter leg that reminds me of Audrey Hepburn’s iconic black cigarette trousers. And of course, you can’t talk about flattering, comfortable pants without talking about Spanx. I love their whole supersmooth line, but the flare pants are my favorite. It really does make you feel longer, leaner, and perfectly compressed.
This year, thanks to cool girl brands like Donni and the Row’s cult-famous Gala pant, we’ve seen the rise of a more elevated pull-on pant. By choosing a satin pant, you immediately feel fancier. Even if it feels like a pajama pant! I love wearing mine with a dainty ballet flat and a super luxe, oversized sweater. If you want to make more of an investment, Jenni Kayne’s Demi pant or La Ligne’s Colby pants are personal favorites. I feel like I can really tell a different in the quality of the satin. Aritzia’s Lodge pant is a drapier satin, without the same high sheen as the other two.
Finally, Ruti’s On The Loose black pants deliver a higher dose of fashion with its dramatic silhouette. I love the ballooning shape of the legs.
