Fleece is fashionable. Yes, you read that correctly. In 2020, fleece is a high fashion fabric, showing up on Instagram It Girls street style pics and the collections of the coolest up-and-coming designer darlings alike.
When you think about it, it makes sense. Even before the coronavirus, fashion was getting more casual. In a world populated with sneakers, ripped denim, and hoodies, fleece is a seriously great addition to the mix. Especially when it comes to texture. It’s comfortable but interesting, and it’s not just for Patagonia anymore.
As always, we’re starting with J.Crew. This half-snap pullover in a rich raspberry shade has just the right amount of holiday cheer, but it also comes in a slate gray for the neutral lovers. This sherpa jacket in white with camel trim looks just as good as any designer jacket out there right now. Alex Mill’s has a similar coat, but it has front pockets! This Thread & Supply jacket even adds an extra flair with a little bit of leopard print trim.
What about a Vineyard Vines black watch tartan print pullover? Perfect to snuggle up and watch season four of the Crown in. Everlane’s crewneck fleece sweatshirt is renewably made, and comes in a lovely marigold shade and a baby blue. There are even cardigans, like this retro-inspired number from Alex Mills and this minimalist take from Uniqlo.
Sandy Liang is a young New York designer who revitalized fleece with her fun, patchwork jackets with neon and animal detailing. They’re definitely pricey, but if you’re looking to splurge it might as well be on something as practical as a fleece jacket. I love this oatmeal and leopard print coat, and this teddy-inspired fleece with ruffle detailing on the shoulders.
