Trend Alert: How To Wear Fringe

An easy way to add a little extra oomph to any outfit.

Trend Alert: How To Wear Fringe

When it comes to making a statement, a little bit of fringe can go a long way. It adds just the right amount of movement and texture to create a memorable piece of clothing. Whether it’s a suede jacket like I’m wearing, or a Thanksgiving-ready skirt, shop our favorites now.

There’s a reason I decided to write about fringe: my new coat from Madewell! I’m crazy for all things suede right now, and the shacket is the perfect weight for LA. I can actually wear it at night and feel like it’s really fall. Tuckernuck’s chestnut brown version is more romantic, less utilitarian. I love the romantic bell sleeves and the long swing of the fringe.

But if leather seems too heavy-duty for you, there are some fabulous wrap coat options. Just looking at one makes me feel like I’m crunching through fall foliage. This camel Simkhai coat is the perfect layering piece. You can wear it with everything from t-shirts to a chunky turtleneck, and cinch it all at the waist. It also comes as a longer style in chocolate brown, one of my favorite colors of the season. For a lighter touch, you can just throw on this Mint Velvet beige poncho or this Tuckernuck fringe scarf over your shoulders and belt it yourself!

Fringe plays well in all parts of your closet, not just outerwear. This A-line, mid-calf black Rails skirt has an undeniably festive appeal. I’m picturing it with a camel cashmere crewneck and tall boots for a Thanksgiving look that will linger long after the last slice of pie is finished. Ulla Johnson’s romantic, boho sensibility is perfect for fringe. Just take a look at this oxblood knit sweater, which I would wear with slouchy black pants or this season’s dark wash denim.
