Without thinking too hard, who is top of mind when we say the word “icon?”
Quick! Jackie O, right? Of course we are right. We don’t even have to qualify the question by adding the word “style” to the question. Jacqueline Bouvier Kennedy Onassis was all that and a bag of chips No one, through the ages, or in recent celebrity memory has embodied her style, her taste, her pathos. Most of us, just children when Jackie began to hold us in her gentle but mighty thrall, once bitten, have never wanted to escape.
If you were lucky enough to view the museum exhibition of Jackie’s sartorial flair, you will recall that unlike most, her sense of fashion never evolved, it didn’t need to, because she was born perfect and never, ever stepped out of the chic zone. This image ,which came as close to portraying the real Jackie , in a relaxed and entirely feminine moment , is the one we like best of all. Without Oleg Cassini or Jackie’s wide eyes, we can all make an attempt at the “look” of the perfect black t-shirt and slim ankle length slacks. Jackie made bare-footed sandals a forever choice and left us all wanting the perfect summer tote. Those iconic huge black glasses hid her beauty and her expression and are forever in the lexicon of what it means to be chic. We really wish we had known her better or at least a bit longer.
