During the summer, whether it’s a hot afternoon or a balmy night, I start picking up my skirts and dresses. It’s just nice to feel the breeze! Luckily, I’ve figured out my new skirt summer uniform. I’m swapping out jeans for a silky midi skirt, but keeping my favorite tank tops and button downs. Just throw on some leather slides and fabulous accessories, and you’re ready to go anywhere. Let’s break down the components of our summer skirt uniform:
We have to start with the skirt. One of my favorite things about this outfit is the color palette. The silky, midnight blue of the skirt is so much more flattering and summery than a true black. Vince’s Slip Skirt is as classic as can be, hitting mid-calf. J.Crew’s Gwyneth Slip skirt is a little bit longer, almost hitting the ankle. Banana Republic’s version has slits on either side for added sex appeal.
The top half of your outfit is all about layering. You need a perfect white tank top, like this high-necked AYR top or Banana Republic’s ribbed version. Then you need the second piece, a light blue button down that you wear open for maximum breeziness and sun protection. I always love COS’s oversized but chic shirts like this one with a pocket, Everlane’s relaxed version, or Banana Republic’s perfectly lived-in classic shirt.
Accessories are the cherry on top of your outfit sundae, so you want to have fun with them. This Patricia Green sandal is a pretty good lookalike of the beloved Hermes slide, but I love that this is navy leather instead of the usual camel. Finish it off with extra-big rectangular black sunglasses (Saint Laurent if you feel splurgey, BP if you don’t.) A giant gold watch and a straw bag are two pieces that go best with a summer tan.
