I just love wide-leg denim, and it seems like the fashion set agrees with me. The silhouette is shaping up to be one of the biggest trends of the season. It’s easy to see why. They’re comfortable. They can be dressed up or down. And there’s a version for everyone – whether you’re going extra big in a palazzo pant-inspired pair, keeping it sharp in trouser jeans, or rocking a retro-inspired flair.
Personally, I love a wide-leg starting from the hip. A high-waist is helpful in this silhouette, because it accentuates the shape. These Citizens of Humanity Annina jeans are a favorite in a light blue vintage wash, and the raw hem adds a little bit of edge and keeps it from being too prim. The same jean in Pinnacle wash is a true blue indigo color to dress it up. COH has another wide-leg pair, the Paloma, that are even more slouchy and lived-in. Everlane’s the Baggy Jean is a similar look that’s friendlier on your wallet.
A slightly cropped pair is a great way to show off a pair of ankle boots or ballet flats, like these DL1961 Hepburn jeans. Mango has a pair of culotte-inspired jeans at an affordable price, to try the trend out. I love these & Other Stories jeans with nautical details like patch pockets and hems.
On the flip side, a super-long pair can add drama whenever you need to dress it up a little. Gap’s denim has been especially good lately, and these High Rise Stride jeans have just a touch of stretch to make sure you’re always comfortable. I love Joe’s The Flaunt jean, with the dark indigo wash, tailored waist, and almost-trouser like appearance. Banana Republic’s Côte jean has pleats and a dark wash too, making them easy to dress up.
