What goes around comes around, so I guess we shouldn’t be surprised that kaftans are having a moment again. Kaftans are comfortable, chic, glamorous and fun. It’s an easy way to add a pop of color and pattern to make a statement, or go for something more grounded and minimal in a neutral shade. You can dress them up for a night out or dress them down if you’re just hanging by the pool – you’ll look fabulous either way. It’s time to channel your inner Elizabeth Taylor, grab your favorite kaftan, and breeze through the rest of the summer.
In the header image, I’m wearing this stunning lilac Tory Burch embroidered kaftan. I love the clean, minimalist lines of the dress, which also comes in a chic camel shade. The dress feels modern and structured in a way I don’t always associate with kaftans, which can get very flowy very fast. This Greek key motif kaftan from Anthropologie has a similar weight and shape to it.
Emporio Sireneuse, the hoteliers behind the famous Le Sireneuse hotel in Positano, have a line of beautiful dresses. While they’re particularly great poolside, you don’t have to be on vacation to rock these. The hot-pink-and-orange psychedelic illustrations on the Giada dress add whimsy and cool. The Cappa dress uses a traditional block-writing technique to get dainty pink florals. But my favorite is this Vesuvius-inspired toile print in a cool blue-and-green pattern is classic and botanical.
For a less maximalist vibe, Tuckernuck’s Carolina kaftan is a low-key dress you can throw on. But there are plenty of details to make this feel special still! From the fake pockets to subtle gingham, it’s a strong example of how less can be more. I love the pink and white for long, super-hot days, but the navy feels just as fresh too!
