Sometimes, the best outfits are the easiest ones. A blouse, wide-leg khaki pants, kitten heeled flip flops. You might even have all of these things in your closet already! It’s a perfect formula for the kind of effective and stylish dressing you can always put your own spin on.
The most exciting part of this look, for me, is the powder blue shirt instead of the usual white. It’s a small difference that can make the whole outfit feel brand new. Especially if you (like me) reach for your white shirt most of the time! Kule’s shirting is always at the top of my list. The Quinn is the perfect amount of boxy that you can still tuck in. If you’re looking for a bargain, this French Connection blouse is a classic that clocks in under $60.
I also love the idea of playing around with texture, and maybe going for instead of the ubiquitous poplin. Sezane’s version feels a little bit lighter and drapier, where J.Crew’s is a little more borrowed from the boys.
On to the khakis! You’re looking for something super wide leg here, to create a dramatic shape and offset the tucked-in waist. This is the kind of the pant that will work right now, but also all the way through the fall. If you want a lighter fabric, though, you could always go for a linen blend like these Banana Republic ones or this drapey twill pair from Madewell. AGolde’s cotton pair are the perfect cross between a trouser and jeans, and I really love the attached belt detail on these ME + EM pants.
Finally: the shoe. Nothing groundbreaking here, but a flip flop kitten heel might just be one of the most versatile summer shoes out there. Tory Burch’s Capri shoe, Aeyde’s square-toed option, or these strappier Schutz shoes are all great takes on the silhouette.
