One of the most surprising trends from last year was the re-emergence of lady jackets. Part sweater, part jacket, and all the way chic, this is not your mother’s version. To keep it 2023, wear it with your favorite leather pants or kick flare denim. This year, I’m reaching for one in a surprising cherry red to keep it feeling fresh but there’s one in just about every color. And we found them, for you.
J.Crew really kicked this trend off last year, so we’ll start with them. Their jackets have modern, cropped proportions and clean lines. So there’s nothing too frilly or fussy about them. This beige and cream version is a perfect neutral, and this lavender shade is a fun twist on tradition. This black boucle jacket is as sleek as they come, and a favorite of J.Crew designer Olympia Gayot. To bridge the difference between true neutral and color, you can always rely on olive green. ME + EM’s boucle olive jacket is very sophisticated.
Like the Chanel jackets that came before it, there are plenty of beautiful mixed tweed jackets out there on the market for a lot less than vintage Lagerfeld. I love this brown, black and gold jacket from Kobi Halperin which feels so perfectly fall. There’s a killer power shoulder on this Veronica Beard coat in navy and green.
With such a classic, conservative silhouette, it can be fun to play around with color for an unexpected effect. Red is popping up everywhere this season and Mango’s bright cherry red jacket is a great way to get in on the trend. Veronica Beard also has a beautiful double-breasted version that’s slightly cropped, perfect for wearing with high-waisted pants. L’Agence’s cream-colored jacket is lined with denim trim for a fun bit of contrast.
