When all else fails in the summer, I always reach for my linen. Sometimes it’s a button-down, sometimes it’s a trouser, and sometimes it’s a dress – but linen is what helps me stand up to the withering heat and stylishly stand out from the crowd. I love button downs. If you read this blog regularly, you know that. Don’t be fooled by the hot weather, either – a button down is perfectly breezy and provides sun coverage on the hottest of days. Because of the aforementioned breeziness, I gravitate towards more oversized shirts. COS, a staple for elevated basics, makes a great short sleeve beige shirt. Gap’s linen boyfriend shirt comes in several fun colors, but my favorite is the pink. Mango’s version cuts a little closer to the body in a crisp white. J.Crew’s popover linen top and ruffle-trim shirt are more fitted, femme options.
Linen pants are the perfect solve for summer dressing if you, like me, don’t always love wearing shorts. A linen easy pant, like this white easy pant from Everlane, can work for just about any outfit you need this summer. A more formal trouser, like this Everlane high-waisted pair, these pleated navy Boden trousers, or Mango’s darted white pair adds a bit of extra polish.
A linen dress is the epitome of ‘throw it on and go’ summer dressing. All you need is a sleek sandal, and you’ll automatically look put together – even if you still have wet hair and a bare face. Because linen can be wrinkly, I like it when a dress has a little structure. A shirt dress is a perfect way to keep it crisp, like this white Banana Republic utility shirtdress, this beige belted midi kaftan dress, or this oversized navy COS dress.
