Sometimes, you really want to splurge on a piece you’ve had your eye on for a few seasons. Like a classic-but-updated pair of loafers, an everyday bag, or an extra-cozy statement jacket. A big purchase is always exciting, but you can’t always go big on everything! That’s where our favorite get the look for less pieces come in. It’s all about mastering a high/low mix in order to create a truly functional, fun closet.
If we’re talking about necessities for the months ahead, a heavy winter coat is high on the top of the list. A statement coat means you look cute every time you leave the house! This year, instead of a standard leather jacket, I’m upping the ante with an aviator flight jacket. That means rich dark brown leather and creamy shearling, with retro inspired lines and an oversized fit. The dream jacket would be this AllSaints Flight Jacket, but Mango’s faux-leather gets the job done at a lot less!!
On the more practical side, Moncler’s black puffer coats are the gold standard for puffers. Luckily, Blauer’s white puffer is just as technical and stylish, at a quarter of the price. And of course, The North Face can always be relied on for great, affordable coats.
Another cold-weather necessity? Cashmere. The more, the merrier. Jenni Kayne’s Cashmere Cocoon cardigan is a cult-favorite in fashion, and it’s easy to understand why. It goes with everything! Luckily, Quince’s Mongolian Boyfriend Cashmere Sweater is a dead ringer. AYR’s The Closer coat is indulgent Italian wool in a forever-cool camel shade, but & Other Stories’s belted wrap coat is a close second.
Let’s get into shoes for a second. Of course, it’s a dream to have a pair of extra-chunky Gucci loafers, but these real-leather Mango ones even come with the classic horsebit! Balenciaga’s blade knife boots are an It-Girl must have this season, but you can get the same look with Jeffrey Campbell’s Pointed Toe.
