I’ve been wearing a lot of leggings, and I’m not the only one. They might as well be the official pants of the pandemic. And as we get closer to winter, and the cozy dressing opportunities it brings, there’s no better time to take our tired leggings and give them a little bit of makeover.
For inspiration, I looked to Instagram and locked into two different looks. One, a dressed up version with a sharp blazer for a pretty and polished vibe. The other, an upgrade to my usual loungewear by pairing leggings with a stylish knit instead of my usual Lulu Lemon zip up or Bob’s crewneck.
First things first, a new pair of leggings. These Jean-ish Spanx leggings offer a little bit more support than the average leggings. This J.McLaughlin pair is more substantial, too. If you want a more athletically inclined pair, these Carbon38 full-lengths are a favorite. You don’t need me to tell you how great Lulu Lemon leggings are. And recently, I’ve been wearing a lot of this pair from Amazon Essentials. Commando’s neoprene pair deliver on style.
Now, for the dressier look. You’ll need a blazer, a white t-shirt, and a pair of tall boots. The blazer should be a little oversized, so it covers your butt. I also love a leather version for an especially luxe take, like this one from Remain. I love this Raey blazer for being perfectly proportioned even though it’s sized up. Everlane’s Oversized Blazer and J.Crew’s Parke blazer are great, too. Gucci’s tall riding boots are timeless, but this Coach pair is just as good of an option for a lot less.
For a more casual look, layer a comfortable long-sleeve t-shirt with a cozy statement knit. Like this cream cable-knit sweater or this long turtleneck. Everlane’s oversized alpaca sweater in cream is also delicious. Just add a pair of stylish sneakers like these Stan Smiths or a Veja, and you’re good to go.
